Alafia River

The Alafia River, located in eastern Hillsborough County, is approximately 45 miles in length. It starts in the town of Mulberry and empties into Tampa Bay at Riverview. Except in times of high water, it's best to put-in no further east than Alderman's Park (see map below).

With the exception of a few rapids west of Alderman's Park, there is not a lot about the river that one could call unusual. Compared to the Little Manatee River a few miles to the south, the scenery does not change much nor are there many views that could be considered exceptional.

The easiest way to paddle the river is to put in at Alderman's Park and take out at Lithia Springs Park (a 3 to 4 hour paddle). Alternatively, give Alafia River Canoe Rentals a call (813-689-8645). They can either rent you a canoe or take your boat up to Alderman's Park and you can paddle back to their facilities.
